Review: Elrow Town London

The world renowned ‘wacky’ club brand elrow opened the gates to The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park once more for elrow Town London – a 2-day spectacular which showcased the biggest artists in the scene who most definitely deserve their spots on the line up!

The journey to the festival is always one of the best moments, bursting with excitement as you head closer and closer to the site. It was no doubt an elrow party with the hundreds of colourful, glitter cladded, costume wearing ravers making their way through the public at Westfield shopping centre brightening up the day, the unmistakable rabble of revellers and punters was infectious. There was no need to follow Google Maps, as volunteers with giant luminous sign posts guiding you along the way was a perfect touch to keep the day organised and in order to get you to the end of the path.

Once we were quickly through the barriers, we were astounded by the immense production – which is no surprise from elrow. Near and far there were countless flags flying in the wind, stilt walkers overlooking the thousands of ravers and giant inflatable creatures luring about. From the very start it was a show, one that you’d usually have to wait for the closing act before all the exciting stuff happens, but not at elrow… it’s always full steam ahead!

elrow’s full power day-glo, glitter-cannon, super-fun approach to raving was fully displayed on their ‘Psychedelic Trip’ main stage. Explosions of colourful patterns were splattered across the stage… somewhat giving the impression you were hallucinating on a trip… freaky!

Across the weekend saw the duo behind the newly popular track ‘Be Somebody’ takeover both stages. The special weekend guests, Solardo had the place bouncing and the festival site full, even at just 2pm! It is no surprise why elrow decided to let them loose on the decks playing to the sparkling, stylish ravers that attended!

If outdoor vibes aren’t your thing then that’s cool, elrow had you covered… excuse the pun! The Cave hosting ‘Sambodromo Do Brasil’ saw your usual festival big top transformed into a magical jungle paradise. Mystical dancers hanging from twisting vines, inflatable parrots to a giant chameleon face at the front of stage you name it, it was in there. We are always overwhelmed by elrow’s production but this was the best we’ve seen yet! If that wasn’t good enough we had the solid beats of headliner Steve Lawler play a faultless set to close the night, a night we didn’t want to end.

Of course, we’re not going to forget to talk about the confetti… If you’ve been to elrow then you know that you’ll be coughing up confetti pieces in the days to come! However, it wouldn’t be an elrow party without thousands and thousands of tiny pieces of confetti pieces flying around after being launched to the naughtiest beat. The floor was riddled with confetti, and you always think to yourself… I’m glad I’m not the one clearing this up!

elrow Town London is not simply a wicked party, or simply has a wicked line-up: it’s an immersive experience; a mesmeric carnival that reels you in with stilts and inflatables, churns you up with banging house and techno, and spits you back out into the streets of Stratford. We cannot wait for elrow to return to London next year, will they expand? Or will they remain at The Olympic Park? All we know is it’s going to be one hell of a long wait but a wait that will be worth it.

Elrow’s next UK show is coming up this Sunday 26th August, transforming Newcastle’s Times Square with their magical Enchanted Forest theme –
