Review: We Are Fstvl – 25th – 27th May 2018

WOW! What a way to kick start festival season, returning to the airfield of dreams… We Are FSTVL came back with a mighty boom and what a weekend it was! With the weather predicted to be a wet thundery one, we were all lucky to leave the rain macs at home as the days were filled with summer sunshine all weekend – minus the campers that was caught in the storm Saturday night!

We Are FSTVL made us all feel at home with familiar party brands hosting stages across the weekend, and with 150+ DJ’s playing everyone is guaranteed to find a sound they like! We were spoiled once again this year with the line-up there’s no denying that…

Saturday saw the mainstage being taken over by all aspects of beats and bass. The world notorious DJ EZ absolutely destroyed the stage, knowing exactly what the crowd wants, and when they want it. The silence from the DJ changeover was quickly broken by the sounds of his opening sequence which entails his name on repeat – if you know you know… preparing us for the power hour of UKG, Grime and Bassline! Other acts included My Nu Leng, Hannah Wants and Gorgon City.

The mainstage on Sunday toned down the BPM slightly but no way did that mean the music was less exhilarating. Jamie Jones and his label Paradise had the place rocking from the minute it opened to the closing finale where he laid an hour and a half of nothing but grooves! Paradise also saw the likes of Marco Carola, Max Chapman & Hot Since 82 rocking the crowd with beats.

Across the other stages we saw Circoloco and Defected take over the Aerodrome arena where was all hit in the face with nostalgia when Armand Van Helden dropped his No.1 hit ‘You Don’t Know Me’… you couldn’t beat the atmosphere when the confetti cannons blew, the sun is shining away and your singing the chorus with your besties!

Providing us with the summer vibes the Kopparberg Urban forest certainly was a secret hidden gem at the festival, Paravana and DVINE Sounds were perfectly suited for the settings as their punchy basslines and use of percussion instruments mimicked the atmosphere somewhat you would get in Ibiza.

Moving on to the fundamentals, We Are FSTVL was once again one of the most organised festivals we have seen! With shuttle buses providing transport to and from all destinations whether that be Upminster Station, Bromley or local hotels it was covered… FOR FREE! Their quick entry system meant that queueing to enter the festival was over within a flash and you were through the gates in no time. We Are FSTVL was one of the first festivals to adopt the token system to purchase drinks and it improves every year! Their electronic token dispenser means that it takes no longer than 10 seconds to get your token then it’s just a short queue at the bar, perfect for when your favourite DJ is on and you don’t want to miss a minute of their set!

We Are FSTVL is most definitely a highlight of every year and by far this year already! We cannot wait to see what they have in store for us next year but we know for sure it is going to be a gooden!
